When a journalist is silent about the danger, threats, harassment, assault, taking away her rights, not giving her justice and balance in the right to work, it means that the environment is not safe, and freedom of expression is at a critical stage! Therefore, we strive to break the silence and promote freedom of expression.

UNESCO Iraq discusses with the Office of the Prime Minister measures to facilitate the work of journalists
On the sixth of May 2024, the UNESCO Iraq Office held a workshop on the sidelines of the World Press Freedom Day with officials from the prime minister’s office and other parties, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Ministry of Interior and the Council of the media and Communications Commission. The attendees discussed the mechanisms to enable journalists to work freely and without any restrictions or harassment, especially since there are many measures issued recently by multiple authorities within the government against journalists
The workshop resulted in the adoption of important recommendations and the announcement of a four-point statement about the workshop, all of which focused on protecting journalists and facilitating their movement in the field and removing previous obstacles that they were exposed to and caused them a problem that limited their freedom of work and movement to perform their journalistic and media tasks
