About

The digital reporting platform for women journalists was established in 2020 with funding from the Multi-Donor Program to promote freedom of expression and the safety of journalists. It continued to work until 2022, when the support was transferred to the Breaking the Silence project on the safety of journalists in Iraq, funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Iraq.

The platform was established under the supervision of UNESCO and direct management, where 20 young journalists follow up the reports received daily and direct them to three main authorities: the publishing and media courts in Iraq, the investigative unit for journalists ‘ cases in the Ministry of Interior, and the human rights team. Special reports are prepared on the roles and tasks played by each of these authorities, depending on the type of case reported by the journalist.

The Digital Reporting Platform, in collaboration with UNESCO Iraq, concluded a specialized workshop and training for female journalists on safety, security, and protection mechanisms in Baghdad. A group of female journalists from various Iraqi governorates received intensive five-day training as part of the Social Media for Peace project, funded by the European Union. The training was delivered by specialists in the field. The training also included social media influencers.
